Tamaskan

Pros History

The Tamaskan Dog is a breed of domestic dog that was developed in the 1980s in Finland. It is a cross between the Siberian Husky, the Alaskan Malamute, and the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. The goal of the breeding program was to create a dog that looked like a wolf, but was more domesticated and easier to train than a purebred wolf.

The first Tamaskan Dog was registered in Finland in 1988, and the breed quickly gained popularity in Europe. In the early 2000s, Tamaskan Dogs began to be imported to the United States and Canada, where they were recognized by the United Kennel Club in 2006.

The Tamaskan Dog was developed by a group of dog enthusiasts who were interested in creating a wolf-like breed that would be more suitable as a domestic pet. The founders of the breed began by crossing Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, and Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs, and then carefully selecting for traits such as intelligence, trainability, and a strong work ethic. The breed has a strong prey drive and is known for its high energy level, making it well-suited for activities such as sledding, skijoring, and agility. It is also an intelligent breed that is easy to train, although it can be stubborn at times.

Despite its wolf-like appearance, the Tamaskan Dog is generally considered to be a friendly and loyal breed that gets along well with children and other animals. It is not a common breed, but it has a dedicated following among those who own and breed them.

The Tamaskan Dog breed is recognized by several kennel clubs around the world, including the United Kennel Club, the American Rare Breed Association, and the Tamaskan Dog Register. It is not recognized by the American Kennel Club or the Canadian Kennel Club, but it is eligible to compete in their events as a miscellaneous breed.
